Rhodes Family

Ash-Next-Ridley, Kent, Parish Church
The Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Ash-next-Ridley, Kent

Thomas and Elizabeth Rhodes lived in Ash-next-Ridley, Kent, in the 18c. Several generations of Rhodes lived in this parish and in the neighboring parish of Ridley, Kent in the 18th and 19th centuries. Sometimes Ash-next-Ridley is referred to as Ash-by-Wrotham. Thomas’s father very likely was John Rhodes of Deptford.

Thomas’ grandson Charles Rhodes married Lucy Basing in Charlton, Kent in 1814,  and they immigrated to the United States about 1829, ending up in Pittsburgh. There has been a large contingent of Rhodes of several generations in the Pittsburgh area. Charles’ and Lucy’s great granddaughter Mary Quarters Rhodes married John Sydney Stone in Paris in 1926. Below I present six generations starting with Thomas and Elizabeth.
