The first identifiable Stones that belong in our family were found in Clayhanger. They were there before 1500, but the first to be documented in our line of descent was Richard Stone alias Venne, born about 1579 and having five children born to his first family between 1602 and 1612. He was still in Clayhanger, at least part time, in 1640 and 1647 when two children from his second marriage were born. By that time part of his family was already well established in neighboring Chipstable, Somerset.
